Strategic Directions for 2007-2012
Creation
The 6 Strategic Directions that will provide a road map for South Texas College’s planning for the next 5 to 10 years were developed from faculty, staff and student discussions that began during the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities & Threats (SWOT) exercises held as part of Professional Development Day Fall 2006. From these discussions, many common themes arose. These were presented to the faculty and staff in an online survey in which over 400 employees selected the top 10 items crucial to STC’s future over the next 5 to 10 years.
A smaller SWOT subcommittee, the President’s Cabinet, and later all the administrators spent the spring semester and into the summer of 2007 articulating STC’s shared vision of where the College should be in 5 to 10 years based on these selected 10 items. The final results from this year-long dialogue by faculty, staff and students are STC’s 6 Strategic Directions, each with 7 to 9 Strategic Outcomes.
Link to Strategic Directions and Outcomes
Once these Strategic Directions and Outcomes were developed, discussions were held among planning groups (i.e., President’s Cabinet, Planning & Development Council, and Administrative Staff) 2 Divisions, and approximately 60% of STC’s departments. These discussions explored how the Strategic Directions affected each unit as well as how each unit could contribute to move STC toward these desired directions.
Activities/Strategies Developed by 6 Task Forces
Concurrently, 6 task forces were created to identify activities and/or strategies that would advance the College toward the visions expressed in each of the 6 Strategic Directions. These task forces, composed of a cross-section of STC employees (faculty, classified and professional/technical staff, and administrators), spent several months brainstorming each of the Outcomes and created a copious list of possible activities/strategies.
To view the results of the task forces’ efforts, please follow the links below. You will find a varied and plentiful list of activities and strategies with suggested unit responsibilities designated. Please note that these designations are only possibilities—they are not prescriptive, nor are they conclusive. Your department may want to consider undertaking some of these activities or possibly even those where you weren’t designated as a responsible unit. These strategies/activities are provided to promote ideas and possibilities as we create our Institutional Effectiveness Plans that will support the Strategic Directions over the next few years.
